The fifth International Competition for Young Opera Singers "Ghena Dimitrova" will take place in Pleven from May 16 to 19, 2023.
The organizer of the competition is the Pleven Philharmonic, in partnership with the Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of Pleven. Young opera singers from Bulgaria and abroad aged between 16 and 35 can participate in the competition.
The auditions will take place by vocal types and in the order of a draw drawn on May 15, at 3 p.m. in the Regional History Museum - Pleven.
The competition traditionally takes place in two rounds. In the first round, the singers perform an aria of their choice and a song by a Bulgarian composer. In the second round - an aria from Mozart and another - again of participant's choice, but different from the one that was in the first. The final concert of the laureates will be held with the orchestra of the Pleven Philharmonic on May 19 (Friday), at 7 p.m. in the "Saglasie-1869" concert hall, Pleven. The prize fund, respectively for first, second and third place for women and men, is provided by the Municipality of Pleven. The grand prize is provided by the Pleven Center Rotary Club. The winner of the Grand Prize is guaranteed participation in a concert by the Sofia Philharmonic.

For the first time this year, a "Grand Prix" prize will be awarded - a grand prize of the "Gena Dimitrova" contest in the amount of BGN 5,000. It will be for a participant who, according to the jury, has exceptional capabilities, reports Lubomir Djakovski, Director of the Pleven Philharmonic.
As well as the following prizes:
- For women – three prizes (BGN 3,000, BGN 2,000, BGN 1,500)
- For men – three prizes (BGN 3,000, BGN 2,000, BGN 1,500)
- Two extraordinary awards for candidates under 23 years of age of BGN 1,000 each (woman, man)
- For the best performance of a Bulgarian song - a prize of BGN 800. -
For the best performing accompanist – BGN 500.
*The jury has the right not to award all prizes. *The decisions of the jury are final. The prize fund, respectively for first, second and third place for women and men, is provided by the Municipality of Pleven. The grand prize is provided by the Pleven Center Rotary Club. The winner of the Grand Prize is guaranteed participation in a concert by the Sofia Philharmonic. The competition is implemented with the support of the Municipality of Pleven and the Ministry of Culture.
